Why Your Body Craves Bergamot - And Why That's Beautiful

This past week I have had many opportunities to ponder on the idea of calming essential oils.

When Paige and I spoke together on our last webinar, I asked what oil she had near her that morning, and she mentioned how she continues to apply Bergamot in the morning.

Paige said, "I am stuck on Bergamot, Gav. You may have to help me figure out why that is."

I love how openly Paige shared this with our community—it's exactly the kind of honest conversation that helps us all grow.

Anyone who seems to be stuck or consistently using Bergamot, I highly support your efforts. Bergamot can be an anchor emotionally for a more positive outlook during the day. This is one of the main reasons that Bergamot is the first ingredient in our I Am Peace blend.

I want to take a few minutes and expand more with you as to why your body or Paige's body desires bergamot and the benefits found therein. I'm excited to share some insights about why your intuition might be guiding you toward this particular oil.

From a chemical constituent standpoint, Bergamot is like a citrus lavender. It has high amounts of d-limonene like we find in uplifting citrus oils, but also high amounts of linalool and linalyl-acetate which can be calming for the mind, heart, and body.

We have a wonderfully complex oil that can help uplift and calm. Few essential oils have the capacity to do this. This is another reason why Bergamot can be so helpful for people who find themselves bouncing back and forth between hyper and hypo states of health.

Aromatherapist Gabriel Mojay stated the following about Bergamot:

Due to the chemical makeup of Bergamot, emotions can be soothed, and inflamed tissues may also be assisted because this oil, like Lavender, contains linalyl-acetate and linalool.

I find Bergamot to be most helpful for three specific things:

Bergamot, or an oil blend containing it like I Am Peace, is a great oil to apply in the morning over the heart and/or neck and shoulder areas. The aroma will rise into the olfactory system supporting brain and central nervous system function while helping the body release any pent up stress.

Bergamot has a great affinity for the liver and the heart organs. When I feel overheated with frustration I like to place a drop of Bergamot with some carrier oil over my heart and liver.

I consider the heart to be the busiest emotional organ and the liver to be the busiest physical organ. When I apply I Am Peace or Bergamot over these areas it is because I am not feeling the peace I desire. Bergamot helps me to reset and let go.

So if you find yourself drawn to Bergamot again and again, I invite you to embrace this wisdom your body is sharing with you. Be kind to yourself, release any self-judgment, and simply be the beautiful soul you are. The world truly needs more of your authentic self.
